Contrary to what everyone believes, I’m not as mean and cruel as they say. I’m certain of that. What I’m uncertain about is whether I should be laughing or frowning. I fully acknowledge that there were times when I had to do things that people didn’t particularly like. But let’s be honest, weren’t those individuals usually deserving of it? I prefer the company of people who lead cheerful and content lives. That’s why I have two faces: one on the cheerful side, which I prefer to show, and the other on the grim, stern side.
I’d much rather forgo my gloomy tasks and bask in the joys of life, but people tend to make it a bit challenging for me.
By the way, since the Bible offers minimal details about the devil’s appearance, artists have had the liberty to interpret this character. In this portrayal, a kinder and less malevolent perspective has been applied.
