The figure of Santa Claus has a rich and fascinating past,

rooted in various traditions and cultures. The story begins with Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century Greek bishop known for his generosity and gift-giving. Over the centuries, tales of Saint Nicholas merged with various folklore traditions, such as the Dutch legend of Sinterklaas, who would ride a white horse and deliver gifts to children.

As European settlers brought these stories to the New World, they evolved into the modern image of Santa Claus we know today. In the 19th century, American influence shaped Santa into a jolly, bearded man in a red suit, largely thanks to the famous poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (often known as “The Night Before Christmas”) and the illustrations by Thomas Nast.
