Spejbl and Hurvínek, pronounced /s-payble & hoor-vee-neck/, are legendary Czech puppet comedy characters created by Professor Josef Skupa. These puppets have gained international acclaim, releasing numerous comedy albums and starring in their own television show.

Our tales often revolve around me, the bumbling father Spejbl, and my lively son, Hurvínek, who share an apartment with another family. Alongside us are Ms. Kateřina and her daughter Mánička, and not to forget their talking dog, Žeryk. Although aimed at children, the shows are filled with clever humor that appeals to adults as well.

I, Spejbl, was the first puppet created by Skupa in 1920, representing an old-fashioned teacher struggling to keep up with the times. My son, Hurvínek, was introduced in 1926, embodying a mix of laziness and hyperactivity. Skupa expertly performed with both of us, providing distinctive high-pitched voices.

His success led to the establishment of a dedicated theatre in 1930. Over time, the puppeteers expanded our stories by adding characters like Ms. Kateřina and Mánička, along with their dog Žeryk.
